Me @ Oaklands
My time @ Oaklands College in Hertfordshire
Well Oaklands started like any other college. Then a few weeks into the new semester and advertisement appeared on the student intranet, THE BOX (www.oaklands.ac.uk/thebox). It was an advertisement for eMentors. It sounded like the perfect start to do something inside a new college.
By about mid semester A everything was great. eMentoring was good. Helped loads of students in my class and even supported the tutor with the colleges technology during lessons, and sometimes outside of lessons.
One of the main starts was my own peer-to-peer site that I started. It was setup to share students work and put up important dates of assignments. This was all going well. The main problem was from the beginning was that there was already an University intranet we all had to use and a college VLE. So I had to over come this issue and link everything from my site the those two to reduce duplications. Wasn't a problem. The site even still exists today at www.oaklands.ac.uk/fdportal
At Oaklands I was even a Student Rep, Student Council Member, Intranet Editor, MoLeMentor, eMentor Liaison Officer as well as an eMentor. Most of the roles that I took on were during my second year. Also during my second year I received a lot of recognition for my work that I did.
eMentor Liaison Officer was a years project that was done in the second year. This project involved analysing the eMentor scheme, which was in the second year of running, and suggesting improvements that could be made. This was all written in 57 page report (Post here soon). This was particularly rewarding as I met all of the eMentors in the college and had the chance to speak to more tutors in the college. While doing this role I done a number of training sessions and group meetings. This helped boost my confidence talking and interacting with a large group of people.
